Adolescent Acne

Most teenagers suffer from some form of acne regardless of race or culture. The main cause of acne is the hormonal imbalances that occur in the body, and this is especially true with puberty. Not washing the face often enough causes the pores to become plugged and can aggravate the acne condition. When long hair rests on the face, it places oils onto the skin which can also aggravate the condition, as does touching the skin. Popping acne pimples cause the acne bacteria to spread to the surrounding area causing further acne outbreaks.

Teens typically do not look after their skin properly and this can cause scar removal cost in later years. Besides basic hygiene, teens can use oral and topical treatments to help reduce and heal outbreaks. Proper prevention in the early teen years can prevent the need for acne scar removal treatments in adult years.

Teens should take particular care to wash their face several times a day, no less than three times. If the teen is involved in extracurricular activities that cause them to sweat, they should wash their face after each activity. Clean water and a pure soap product without chemicals, perfumes or preservatives should be used.

Long hair contains oils that aggravate the acne condition. Teens should be encouraged to pull the hair back off their face to keep the skin clear of these oils.

Many teens will pop the acne pimple in the hopes that this will cause the pimple to disappear faster. However, it only spreads the bacteria to other areas of the face and hands. Popping acne pimples will also result in acne scars that will be seen in the skin for the rest of their lives.

Girls insist on wearing makeup but this only tends to clog the pores. Makeup also slows down the healing process and will end up creating more acne. Makeup should be thoroughly removed each night before going to bed as makeup residue buildup plays havoc on acne. If makeup is necessary, hypo-allergenic makeup is the better choice as it contains natural ingredients that do not aggravate the acne condition.

Acne may be caused by food allergies. A doctor can do the appropriate testing to eliminate this possibility.
